27 February 1998 Stamp Advisory Committee c/o Stamp Management U.S. Postal Service 475 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W. Washington, DC 20260-6756 Dear Sirs: I have been a Betty Grable fan nearly all my life. I am very interested in seeing a Betty Grable commemorative stamp. Miss Grable is extremely well known as a pin-up during World War II. She was a popular image for our fighting men, and a role model for all women as the All American girl. She was also a very popular entertainer in the fullest sense of the word. Everyone adored Betty Grable. She frequently represented single working women within the framework of her movie roles. Once she even played a suffragette. Women of the forties were asked to take over a lot of responsibility from men during World War II--and then hand it back as if nothing had ever happened once the war was over. In her funny way, Betty showed them that women could manage really well. Betty was an icon for everyone in that time. She is the only woman ever to remain in the top ten for over nine years in a row--certainly a box office record holder. Oh, and no fear...if you do produce a Betty Grable stamp I will certainly buy several hundred myself. I promise. Sincerely,
